CARGO AIRPORT "UST-LUGA"
Today Northwestern Russia has no cargo airport that is capable
of accommodating heavy-lift cargo aircraft and handling freight flows on
internal and international air routes.
Construction of such cargo airport together with development
of Ust-Luga Sea Merchant Port will enable establishing a unique transportation
hub at North-West of Russia.
Favourable geographical position of the airport will allow many companies
to optimize their air routes and to organize effective cargo logistics processes passing
through this hub.
Technical data of the aerodrome are given with regard to the future
development of the airport and possible accommodation of AN-124-100 (Ruslan), Boeing
747-400F and A380-800F wide-body aircraft. The runway is 3760 m long and 60 m wide. It
corresponds to ICAO Code 4F and Class A according to the Russian standards.
The aerodrome is situated 140 km far from Pulkovo Airport and has convenient
air approaches. This location allows using Ust-Luga Aerodrome as an alternate aerodrome to Pulkovo Airport and airports of Central and Northwestern Russia.
Construction of major and cross-over taxiways is envisaged
to provide maximum aerodrome handling capacity.
Besides an apron for freighters there is a passenger sector
with a terminal complex for business aviation aircraft and helicopter transportation.
Available vast territories of more than 250 hectares, adjacent to the airport, will enable creating convenient logistics terminals and a free economic zone where it will be possible to store transit goods
and locate assembly plants with consequent export of the goods without payment of customs duties under a free customs zone regime.
Zoning of the cargo and customs complexes has been made with regard to developing transportation infrastructure at the territory adjacent to
the airport. That is why there is a possibility to build a road and a
railway line for passenger and freight traffic and supply of aircraft fuel.
In future when volume of traffic and intensity of flights increase there will be possible to locate the second runway, parallel to the first, with
cross-over taxiways and to expand the passenger and cargo aprons.
The available territory of more than 500 hectares enables developing ancillary infrastructure of the airport and the cargo complex in future.
